Cincinnati / October 14, 2017
More than 250 runners and walkers participated in the first Dr. Patty Walter Tooth Fairy 5K on October 14 to benefit the building of a dental clinic at the Academy of World Languages Community Learning Center. Spnosored by the Cincinnati Dental Society’s Oral Health Foundation and the Children’s Oral Health Network, the race was dedicated to the memory of Dr. Patty Walter who was a champion for the development of dental clinics as part of the Cincinnati Public Schools’ community learning centers. Dr. Walter served on the CDS Oral Health Foundation and was the founding president of the Children’s Oral Health Network.

AWL serves a high concentration of refugee children from over 40 countries and has become a hub of services and support for many refugee families in the community. The dental clinic at AWL will be part of an integrated health hub connected to the school building which will include a comprehensive medical clinic, vision center, mental health services, social work support, and on-site interpreters, all part of the Community Learning Center Institute model.
