Roberts Community Learning Center and the Community Learning Center Institute are proud to announce that they have received a grant for the Technolochicas LiFT program from LULAC and Televisa Foundation. Nestled under the LULAC’s Women Empowerment (WE) Initiative, the program was designed to create positive change from within Hispanic communities by providing Computer Science, more specifically coding, program design and robotics education to young girls in middle school. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that IT will be one of the fastest-growing sectors of the U.S. economy, adding nearly 1.4 million job openings by 2020. Moreover, it is vital to introduce Latinas into Computer Science education so that they have the technological skills and knowledge necessary to compete in academic settings, job markets, and in activities that call for an ever-increasing reliance on technology.
