Recently, the Cincinnati Public Schools’ (CPS) Community Learning Centers Initiative was awarded one of two National Community School Awards for Excellence by the National Coalition for Community Schools in Washington D.C.

Community Learning Centers (CLC) strengthen the link between schools and communities by providing a system of integrated partnerships that promote academic excellence and offer recreational, educational and social opportunities for students, families and residents. We’re proud to support CLCs in partnership with the Greater Cincinnati Foundation, the Carol Ann & Ralph V. Haile, Jr./U.S. Bank Foundation, and the Community Learning Center Institute.

Since CLC’s implementation in 2000, CPS has seen an increase in graduation rates from 51% to 81.9% in 2010 and a decrease in the achievement gap between African-American and white students from 14.5% in 2003 to 1.2% in 2010.

These results have drawn national attention for successfully creating education hubs throughout our community that revitalize neighborhoods and maximize our return on investment in public schools. It’s work and partnerships like Community Learning Centers that will make our community’s goal to see 85% of youth graduating from high school prepared for life, college and career — one of the Bold Goals for Our Region — a reality. Congratulations to CPS and all the organizations and individuals whose support have made Community Learning Centers such a resource to our area.
