From the remarks of City of Cincinnati Council Member P.G. Sittenfeld on the occasion of his swearing in for his second term:
We arrive at an uncertain moment, not just in Cincinnati, but across our country.
For too many people, the path to a better life, the path to realizing the promise of the American Dream, feels far away and unclear. And the fierceness of the debate over government’s appropriate role too often seems not to open people’s minds, but to close their ears.
The question, always, is what’s the vision, where are we trying to go? And how do we get there – how do we make that vision real?
I envision Cincinnati as a city of opportunity.
Opportunity, first and foremost, means that everyone who works hard has the chance to lift themselves up. Cincinnati’s development of schools as community learning centers already stands out as a national model…
Sittenfeld, also the Director of Government Relations and Communications for the Community Learning Center Institute, was the top vote-getter by the largest margin of victory in the history of City Council elections. Prominently featured as part of his platform was the promotion of schools as centers of community. Sittenfeld will be chairing the newly formed City Council Committee on Education and Entrepreneurship.
