Mt. Airy’s Community Learning Center chess team took home honors for the 5th consecutive year in the Queen City Classic Chess Tournament held at Paul Brown Stadium on March 2 and 3, 2018. Competing against 16 teams from 9 states, the 4th grade team wond 3rd place, and the 6th grade team came in second in a field of 18 teams. Leondrae Blassingame, a 6th grader, earned 5th place out of 75 players.
Established in 2002, the Queen City Classic Chess Tournament is a treasured Cincinnati event that gives children of all backgrounds the opportunity to compete in a chess tournament in an NFL stadium. Drawing students from as many as ten states, the tournament at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio provides a positive, friendly venue for children to apply the skills they have cultivated through their love of chess.
