Cincinnati City Council unanimously approved a new community learning center zoning ordinance, the first in the nation. Inspired by the expansion of several Community Learning Center Institute campuses beyond the school building, the City created legislation that recognizes the need for zoning to be more flexible to ensure that community learning centers “..may grow and develop in a manner that provides greater benefits to the communities in which they are located.”
Introduced by Council Member P.G. Sittenfeld, Chair of the City Council Education Committee, this ordinance also embeds the definition of CPS community learning centers in the City’s Code. The legislation includes recognition of the CPS community learning center model as having received “…widespread recognition and acclaim for utilizng a comprehensive approach to learning that comprehensively provides for the needs of students, their families, and the neighborhoods around them…”
