Adelyn Hall, the Community Learning Center Institute’s Director of Housing was featured on At Home with Gary Sullivan on IHeart Radio, American’s most listened to home improvement show. The special end of the year program on December 29 and 30, 2018 focused on Habitat for Humanity’s work in Greater Cincinnati and their expansion from changing the life of one family to transforming neighborhoods. One of the highlights of their work is the partnership with the Community Learning Center Institute in the Lower Price Hill community, anchored by the Oyler Community Learning Center.
Ed Lee, President and CEO of Habitat of Greater Cincinnati, was encouraged by the work that was being done by the Community Learning Center Institute to redevelop Oyler School as an anchor for the neighborhood through its community learning center model. The momentum created by the investment in the redevelopment of Oyler, as well as the strong leadership by CLCI of a grassroots revitalization intiative, led Habitat to make a commitment to Lower Price Hill.
Hall described the first family that CLCI connected to Habitat. Through no fault of their own, they were unexpectedly evicted and found themselves on the verge of homelessness. Being able to build and own their own home changed their lives forever. “The impact on this one family opened our eyes to what could be possible for many families in Lower Price Hill,” said Hall. “With Habitat’s plan to rehab 7 historic homes around the Oyler Community Learning Center, Habitat’s partnership built the momentum for the transformation of the whole neighborhood. And it all started with the first Habitat home.”
“This housing initiative in Lower Price Hill is changing the community, changing schools, changing everything,”concluded Gary Sullivan, the host of the program.
