Sen. Sherrod Brown gave a shout-out to Cincinnati Public Schools as he kicked off his tour Friday night of New Hampshire.
The Ohio Democrat from Cleveland is considering a presidential run and touring early primary and caucus states.

Brown kicked-off a two day tour of New Hampshire Friday night in the seaside town of Hampton talking to an advocacy group for family medical leave.

As New Hampshire leaders detailed the struggle of caregivers and families dealing with major illnesses, Brown took the opportunity to highlight the work of Cincinnati Public Schools.

In particular, Brown championed Cincinnati schools’ Community Learning Centers, launched in 2002.
The CLC’s offer health services, counseling, after-school programs, nutrition classes, food pantries, and a variety of other services to students and families.

“Cincinnati is one of the leading communities in the country that does things called community schools,” Brown said. “It is the wrap-around services. Sometimes they need food pantries at the school or need mental health services.”

The mention didn’t go unnoticed by Cincinnati schools.
“Important note: community learning centers aren’t just about poverty relief: it’s about creating opportunities for our students, families + community,” tweeted CPS spokeswoman Lauren Worley.
