The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky 17 under Seventeen Awards were celebrated at Redsfest on Saturday, December 3, honoring students with a strong academic record, demonstrated leadership, commitment to community service, and “random acts of kindness.” Two of the special 17 chosen were Oyler students.
Shelby Connelly is planning on becoming a teacher and she has been helping as a teacher’s aide in the preschool and middle school at Oyler since her junior year. De’montey Campbell is an honor student, an active member of Student Council, and one of the student representatives to the school’s Local School Decision Making Committee. De’montey plans to become a lawyer and has already been accepted to Ohio University and Berea.
The award was established by Rico Grant, CEO of SoCap Accelerate, to further cultivate and retain future leadership for our region.
Several significant partners have joined this initiative, including the Cincinnati Reds, Duke Energy, and UC. Each of the the students will receive a $5,000 scholarship to UC.
