Here is the Sept. 9 winner.
Alejandra Martinez, Oyler High School

Alejandra Martinez (Ali) of Oyler High School is a hardworking student who has a 3.88 weighted GPA. She has earned this GPA by taking AP and CCP classes, as well as challenging herself with rigorous electives like Anatomy and Physiology. Ali aspires to be a surgeon and takes her academics seriously. To help better prepare herself for her future in college and beyond, Ali spent a week of her summer at the Medical Sciences Summer Institute at the University of Cincinnati. There, she was able to learn about and participate in a professional lab where actual research work was being conducted.

Outside of academics, Ali is very active in many activities at Oyler. She embodies what it means to “wear many hats.” She participates in varsity volleyball, cheerleading, and softball. She’s an active and vocal member of the student council. She has served as a student member of the Local School Decision Making Committee (LSDMC) and has represented Oyler as a member of the superintendent’s leadership council.

In addition to all of this, Ali has been an active member of the Oyler theater program where she has proven to be a very talented actor, serving as the lead in multiple shows. She is also active in the school’s media arts program, where Ali and another student filmed a PSA for the entire school addressing the new school electronic device policy which is rolling out next week. She has taken part in film camp, where she helped write, produce and act in short films. Ali is also one of four students working to start a new podcast that will focus on college access.

Ali is a leader in the classroom, sports, and clubs here at Oyler. She is eager to take advantage of all the opportunities that come her way, and she is helpful and kind to other students. She lives the Oyler motto of, “Be responsible, be respectful, and be safe.” She has definitely left her mark at Oyler that will last long after she graduates!
