Almost 1000 visitors enjoyed a day long celebration of performances by students from the Academy of World Languages and more than a dozen multi-cultural groups. AWL is a magnet school which teaches Russian, Chinese, Japanese and Arabic which were represented in the songs and dances performed by the students. Like the parade of nations at the Olympic ceremonies, hundreds of AWL students in a bouquet of colorful costumes brought the audience to their feet as they carried the banners of the 47 countries from which they come.
The celebration continued with four hours of non-stop performances arranged and produced through the volunteer efforts of Michael Beck, President of MidWest Latino. AWL is a community learning center which serves as a hub for multicultural education and programming for students, their families and the community.
