Oyler School: A Community Learning Center in Action
A recent article from the American Federation of Teachers, “A Vision for Public Education,” reminds us that strong public schools are more than classrooms. They are places where students, families, educators, and community partners come together to support learning, well-being, and opportunity.
Oyler School is a powerful example of this vision in action. As a Community Learning Center, Oyler has become a true neighborhood hub, connecting students and families with important resources, services, and support. This work helps create the conditions students need to feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.
The Community Learning Center Institute is proud to serve as the lead agency at Oyler School, helping build and coordinate partnerships that support the whole child and the whole family. Through this model, schools like Oyler are able to respond to the real needs of the community while strengthening family engagement, student success, and neighborhood connection.
Oyler’s work shows the impact of what can happen when schools and communities work together with a shared purpose. It is a reminder that public education is strongest when families are welcomed, students are supported, and partnerships are built around the needs of the community.
